Why should you donate to AFCS?
Mainstream services provided to help people experiencing relationship and family problems often fail to understand the particular problems faced by South Asian communities. The multi-culturalist model promotes a perception that South Asian communities are "different" with distinct cultural, religious and moral values which public servants such as the police, social workers, health workers and teachers should not interfere with. Part of this is the belief that when problems do occur the extended-family, religious or community leaders will step in without the need for external assistance.
Asian Family Counselling Service is in a unique position to provide the support individuals, couples and families need because we understand the issues facing South Asian people living in the UK . We are able to provide a non-judgemental and culturally sensitive service in languages such as Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Gujurati. Our counsellors are all fully qualified and receive regular supervision. In addition, the training we offer does much to educate mainstream practitioners in how to work with South Asian communities.
Although we do charge for our services, these are on a sliding scale so that those who are unable to pay do not have to. Your donation will enable us to maintain and improve the services we provide.
